Sometimes you find yourself with a bit of time on your hands and are never quite sure what to do with it. Too far to go to France. By the time you drive 5 hours to the Tunnel and then to Calais the first day had disappeared and only two are left before the same 5 hour journey home. It is at this time if the weather permits that a short break in this country seems the only sensible option. The prob

Many people display their Christmas cards by taping them up around the door frame or stringing them along the mantel, while others don't display their cards at all. If you are looking for a new, creative way to show off your beautiful Christmas cards, check out these display ideas.

Christmas card display

Create a Christmas card display tree

Create a "tree" in your living room with long twigs you collect from your yard. Arrange the twigs in an old-fashioned pitcher or unique vase, then tie or clip the Christmas cards to the ends of the twigs. You can make your tree even more festive by spray-painting your branches and twigs with white, gold or silver paint before adding the cards.

Decorate chair backs

Punch holes in each card and string a festive ribbon through the holes to create a chain of four or five cards. Repeat until you have one ribbon for each chair. Add the ribbons to your chair backs to add a holiday touch to your dining room. To make the most impact, use ribbon that is at least an inch wide.

Spell it out

Place strips of two-sided tape on a main wall in your living room to spell out holiday words such as "Peace," "Joy" or "Ho Ho Ho!" Then stick your favorite Christmas cards along the tape to create a bold holiday statement that costs almost nothing.

Make Christmas ornaments

Interior designer Erinn Valencich suggests upcycling cards to creative new glitzy Christmas ornaments. You will need three Christmas cards to make each ornament.

  1. Cut out 15 colorful 2 1/2-inch circles from the illustrated portions of three different holiday cards.
  2. Choose three dissimilar circles and fold each one in half, just to make a crease.
  3. Glue two circles together on one side and wait until the bond has a chance to set.
  4. Carefully smear glue all over the inner sides of the attached circles, and stick them onto the third circle, which is lying flat. The circles should now form a three-dimensional triangular shape.
  5. Press the three circles firmly together and let sit.
  6. Repeat steps 2 through 5 a total of four more times.
  7. After they're dry, dip outer edges in glue and roll in a bowl of sparkly glitter.
  8. Punch a hole in the top and thread with yarn. Knot the top and add a wire hook, or display the orbs among springs of winterberry and pine branches for a festive Christmastime centerpiece to enjoy year after year.

Frame your best cards

At the end of the season, pick out your favorite cards and frame them to create a piece of holiday art for next year. Choose Christmas cards in the same color scheme and make a collage, or just pick one big, beautiful card and place it in a unique frame.

Watch: More ways to display holiday cards

Do you love the annual flurry of holiday greetings, but not the tumbling mess it creates on the mantel? This creative solution is a fun and easy way to show off your cards.

How do you watch TV?

Does anyone watch TV the old-fashioned way anymore? What used to be a revolution in the way we watched television is now status quo -- recording shows live to watch later , streaming via the Internet to beat the rising costs of cable and even downloading shows from online retailers such as Amazon. Let's explore some of the alternatives to traditional cable that are available for watching television.

Hulu

How to get it: Accessible on your computer, laptop or smartphone at www.hulu.com

What's available: Versions of most mainstream popular television shows from the major networks, plus older seasons and episodes of some television shows. Movies are also available, although you won't find any new releases in their lineup. The newest episodes of television shows are not available immediately -- sometimes it takes a few days to appear on Hulu. And be warned that every now and again, you'll have your show interrupted by a short advertisement.

Cost: Free. You can upgrade to Hulu Plus for $7.99 per month, which allows you to watch entire seasons of popular shows, instead of just the most recent five episodes, plus a larger library of movies, all with limited advertisements and in high-definition.

Pros: The price is obviously a selling point for Hulu. Even though it's a free service, it certainly doesn't feel that way!

Cons: If you're anxious to watch the newest episode of your favorite show, it can be hard to wait for it to pop up on Hulu. Not being able to start seasons from the beginning can be frustrating.

Overall: Despite its drawbacks, Hulu is a fantastic way to watch TV without cable. For the most part, Hulu is easy to use and access online, even when traveling away from home with your laptop.

Apple TV

How to get it: You can easily purchase Apple TV at your local Apple retailer, or jump online to purchase it on the Apple website or even Amazon.com

What's available: Once you hook up the Apple TV box to your television, you can purchase and download almost any TV series or movie that you can think of. You can also access your Netflix stream and even photos and music via Apple's newest invention, iCloud.

Cost: $99 for the Apple TV box, plus the price of any shows or movies you want to download, which range from $1.99 to $3.99 apiece

Pros: The Apple TV box itself has a tiny footprint, which is nice if you don't have much space. Plus, you can access a huge library of television shows and movies -- even new releases. With iCloud storage also available now, you don't even have to store your shows on the Apple TV device, which leaves you room to download as much as your heart desires!

Cons: If this is the only way you're accessing television, it could get costly to be downloading entire seasons of your favorite shows.

Overall: Apple TV is a great option for watching television, especially if you are only watching select shows or prefer watching movies. And, of course, Apple addicts who are already using other Apple products and features will love syncing their TV too.

Roku

How to get it: Roku can be purchased on the company website at www.roku.com and at some local stores -- check their website for details

What's available: Roku is a great way to manage all of your favorite television and movie favorites such as movies from Amazon Instant Video, Netflix, Hulu Plus and many more.

Cost: The Roku box ranges from $50 to $100, depending on the features you choose. Remember that you'll also have to pay separately for the services above, such as Netflix and Hulu Plus.

Pros: If you have a hard time choosing your favorite way to watch television, Roku is the perfect option for consolidating the ways you access TV and movies into one device. Also, Roku is a streaming device rather than a downloading device, so you can watch shows and movies instantly.

Cons: You must also have high-speed wireless installed at home and you'll have to subscribe to some additional services in order to get access to television shows and movies.

Overall: Roku is a pretty cool way to watch television while avoiding standard cable television fees.

TiVo

How to get it: The best prices tend to be on the Tivo website, although you can also pick up a TiVo box at most big-box electronics stores

What's available: TiVo is a service that you use in addition to traditional cable, which runs through your TiVo box to your television. TiVo allows you to manage your cable television service, plus access movie services such as Netflix and Amazon Video on Demand easily, and record shows and movies from cable to watch whenever you'd like.

Cost: The TiVo box itself will cost you anywhere from $80 to $500, depending on the level of storage you need. In addition, there is a monthly fee of $20 to use the TiVo service.

Pros: TiVo is a great way to manage the shows that you're accessing via traditional cable and record them to watch later -- plus you can fast-forward through commercials!

Cons: The monthly fee is certainly a downside to TiVo service, although it's comparable to what you'll pay for a DVR through your cable service, but with a lot more features.

Overall: One of the original DVR options on the market, TiVo is still holding strong when it comes to helping you watch television with ease. The interface is easy to use, as well.

Welcome to Decorating Diva, where every week we share fresh, fun ways to update your home and spice up your living space! If you still have some holiday decorating to do, we suggest going green. Sure, green is a festive color but this time we're talking about decorating your home with an eco-conscious twist. We have the tips and tricks to help you do it.

Decorating Diva

Pinecone and cranberry Christmas display

We asked interior designers Christopher Grubb and Linda Turner of Arch-Interiors for their tips on decorating with the environment in mind this Christmas. They provided some simple strategies for going green this season – without compromising on style.

Use nature to create decorations

By using what you find in your own backyard you can save money and avoid buying items that may only get one or two uses. Seasonal evergreen plants, branches, berries, pine cones, nuts, dried fruit, squash and pomegranates all make great holiday decorations, the designers tell us. Use them to trim the tree, in floral arrangements or as a centerpiece for your holiday table.  "Plants add a breath of fresh air and scent to a space," Turner says.

Recycle

We’ve all heard the saying about one person’s trash as another person’s treasure – and it’s true. While we don’t suggest you sift through the garbage, you can get lots of decor potential from gently used goods. Visit garage sales and thrift stores for unique accessories, fabric that can be turned into decorative holiday pillows and new ornaments. Or swap with friends and family to refresh your collection and theirs. Turner also suggests buying a collection of crystal or silver candlesticks at local thrift shops and using them to create beautiful groupings on your mantel or on your holiday table.

Focus on fabric

Colorful textiles can make a room pop and take it from drab to dazzling, but be mindful of what you choose. Add a festive tablecloth, table runner or placemats to the dining room but opt for sustainable fabrics like silk, cotton, wool and hemp that add great texture and are also good for the planet. It goes without saying, but it’s important to always use cloth napkins and china instead of disposable paper products.

Stylish energy savers

With all of the holiday chaos it can be easy to use more energy than usual. But there are simple ways to conserve, the designers explain.

  • Light candles and a fire to create a warm and romantic atmosphere and save electricity.
  • Replace your holiday lights with LED lights. They last longer and use less electricity than conventional lights.
  • Switch out or add a second layer of draperies to your lighter summer drapery with heavier velvet or brocades in rich seasonal colors. It will add a festive touch and keep your house warmer without turning up the heat .

Use what you already have

Turner and Grubb suggest giving your home a holiday facelift without spending a cent by using what you already own.

  • Save left over holiday wrapping paper to make book covers - a trick that will add a festive touch to your book shelves.
  • Repurpose mismatched holiday ornaments by spray painting them in a theme color like gold, silver or white to unify them and give your tree a new look.
  • Use leftover holiday ribbon to make bows to mix in with your ornaments, wreaths and update the look of your tree.
  • Candy canes and gingerbread houses make great decorative elements, don’t require you to buy anything new, and the kids will love them.

David Cross did not like The Chipmunk series.

At all.

The Arrested Development star was signed to a three-picture deal with the series.

Cross had the following to say about his experience:

This last film was literally, without question, the most unpleasant experience I've ever had in my professional life.

It's safe to say I won't be working with some of those people ever again. Not the actors. And the director [Mike Mitchell] was great. We got along. It was just a really awful, unpleasant experience.

Some of the actors Cross worked with include Amy Poehler and Justin Long.

While Cross did say he enjoyed working with some, we wonder who he DOESN'T want to work with in the future.

Still, The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret enters its second season on IFC.

The actor has that to look forward to after Chipwrecked.

Plus, he's dating Amber Tamblyn.

Euro will not survive without urgent action, says Lord Lamont

Former Tory chancellor tells Radio 4's Today programme that time is running out for eurozone countries with bonds near to 7%

Former Conservative chancellor Lord Lamont has warned that the euro will not survive without urgent action to resolve the eurozone debt crisis.

His comments came as European leaders face renewed pressure to boost the firepower of the EU's multibillion-euro bailout package after Belgium's credit rating was cut.

Credit rating agency Moody's downgraded Belgium by two notches to Aa3, its fourth-highest rating. It warned that indebted eurozone countries such as Belgium will find it increasingly hard to fund their debts or achieve economic growth in the face of Europe's austerity drive.

"The fragility of the sovereign debt markets is increasingly entrenched and unlikely to be reversed in the near future," warned Moody's.

Lamont said the markets did not believe the EU's response to the crisis was credible.

"We need to get on with this a bit faster if the euro is going to survive in any sort of form," he told BBC Radio 4's Today programme. "The choice is between contraction or explosion.

"There is not time left. Italy and other countries cannot go on with interest on their bonds near to 7%. At some point there is going to be a real crisis.

"One of the big dangers is the longer it goes on, the more likely it is that a big financial institution somewhere is going to get into trouble because of its holding of sovereign bonds.

"This is going to happen if a crisis solution is not found very soon."

Another ratings agency Fitch said on Friday it would consider cutting Belgium's credit rating, along with those of Spain, Italy, Slovenia, Cyprus and Ireland. France's AAA credit rating remained intact for another day, although Fitch did revise its outlook down to "negative".

The latest credit rating changes came as the EU released details of the "fiscal compact" deal designed to rescue the euro and prevent countries from going bust. This was published amid concerns over rising bad debt levels in European banks and the growing dependence of major lenders on funds provided by the European Central Bank.

French president Nicolas Sarkozy and German chancellor Angela Merkel said the fiscal compact could go ahead with the backing of just nine of the eurozone's 17 members. It will allow Brussels to enforce greater budgetary control and provide a solid firewall against shocks from the financial system.

But Fitch said the wrangling over fundamental aspects of the compact and the failure to clearly identify who will pay if the plan fails was undermining its standing with the markets.

Elmar Brok, a German member of the European parliament for Angela Merkel's CDU party, said he was confident a solution would be reached.

"You see how problematic it is to find a position of majority within a country; how more difficult it is to do it between countries," he told the programme.

"But I think the crisis is so dangerous for everyone, within the euro or outside the euro, that we should find a solution that has credibility with the markets."

News of the World made hush payment of £125K to McCanns

Confidential deal towards search fund for Madeleine was part of apology for tabloid's publication of mother Kate's diary extracts

The News of the World paid £125,000 to the fund supporting the search for Madeleine McCann as part of an apology for publishing Kate McCann's diaries – on condition that the terms of the deal remained secret.

The payment was made after the missing girl's parents expressed their outrage at the story, which Kate McCann said made her feel "mentally raped". All the parties involved in the negotiations over the payment, which was agreed in September 2008, were asked to sign a confidentiality agreement hiding the scale of the newspaper's culpability.

The payment was made despite claims by the defunct newspaper's editor at the Leveson inquiry last week that he believed he had had the full support of the McCanns to publish. Colin Myler, who edited the NoW from 2007 until it closed this year, told the inquiry he had received repeated assurances from his head of news, Ian Edmondson, that the McCanns' spokesman, Clarence Mitchell, supported publication – a claim which has been strenuously denied.

Myler told the inquiry that he subsequently ran an apology and paid a "substantial sum" because "he felt very bad that she didn't know". However, the Observer has learned that the NoW initially tried to minimise the compensation. A source at News International, the owner of the newspaper, said there were hours of negotiations between the newspaper's lawyers and Carter-Ruck, the solicitors hired by the McCanns, in the days following publication of the story on 14 September 2008.

A deal was finally struck in which a £125,000 payment was agreed, but all parties were obliged to sign agreements that they would not talk about the size of the compensation. Last night Kate and Gerry McCann's spokesman declined to comment on the revelation.

The Leveson inquiry into the media will hear this week from former NoW sports journalist Matt Driscoll, who was awarded almost £800,000 for unfair dismissal in April 2007 while on long-term sick leave for stress-related depression following a campaign of bullying provoked by the newspaper's then editor, Andy Coulson.

It will also hear via video link from Piers Morgan, former editor of the Daily Mirror and the NoW, who now works for CNN in New York. At 28, Morgan was appointed editor of the NoW, making him the youngest tabloid newspaper editor in history. He was editor of the Daily Mirror for more than 10 years, but was sacked in 2004 after the newspaper conceded that photos it published apparently showing British soldiers abusing an Iraqi were fake.

Morgan claimed in a GQ magazine interview in 2007 that phone hacking was "widespread" and that "loads of newspaper journalists were doing it" when Clive Goodman and Glenn Mulcaire were jailed in January of that year.

Asked in the interview whether he knew about voicemail interception while he was editor of NoW, Morgan said: "Well, I was there in 1994-95, before mobiles were used very much, and that particular trick wasn't known about. I can't get too excited about it, I must say. It was pretty well known that if you didn't change your pin code when you were a celebrity who bought a new phone, then reporters could ring your mobile, tap in a standard factory setting number and hear your messages. That is not, to me, as serious as planting a bug in someone's house, which is what some people seem to think was going on."

In 2006 Morgan wrote an article for the Daily Mail claiming that he was played a tape of a message Paul McCartney left on the mobile phone of Heather Mills. "The couple had clearly had a tiff, Heather had fled to India, and Paul was pleading with her to come back," he wrote. "He sounded lonely, miserable and desperate, and even sang We Can Work It Out into the answerphone."

Agra turns out to be a real dump of a place but the hassle was not as bad as people had said and was easily coped with. We arrived at our hotel by 4.00pm and as usual it was good to find that they were expecting us.We had booked for two nights giving us a leisurely day seeing the Taj Mahal. What are your plans in Agra asked the pleasant receptionist. Tomorrow we go to see the Taj Mahal

Valle de Vinales is to Cuba as Pai is to Thailand. Its a hub for travellers rather than tourists and its notsoattractive town centre is surrounded by rural selfsustainable dwellings with some of the countrys most spectacular views. Undulating fields of lush greens and deep red terracotta plots surround the steep walls of the towering limestone mogotes. Its different to Pai though

Famed producer Timbaland has battled many things in his career.

But he has also been a smashing sucess in the music business.

Working with the likes of Justin Timberlake, Missy Elliot, Nelly Furtado, and Dr. Dre, he has been a force since the early 90s.

With E!'s True Hollywood Story, Timbaland reveals some of his demons.

He admits to loving the late Aaliyah but chose to be a big brother type.

He states the following:

When I first met Aaliyah—it time for the world to hear this, I'm gonna give a little secret—I was in love with her. I said, But I'm not…She just a baby, I'm old. I said to myself, 'I'm just gonna be her brother.' Oh man, I was fightin', I was fightin' a lot—a big war. But I loved Aaliyah.

Aaliyah signed a record deal at 12 and allegedly married R. Kelly at 15.

She tragically passed away at 22 in a 2001 plane crash.

Timbaland also talks about his weight and his suicidal thoughts.

I was almost 400 pounds. Who wants to be a 400-pound black man? I'm looking in the mirror, my breast is bigger than a girl breast. And I was saying, 'That ain't cool.' So I got very depressed, like suicidal depressed.

But now, the superstar producer is married and healthier.

Timbaland's Story airs Tuesday, December 20th.

It started with a death in Tunisia, spread to Egypt, Libya, Bahrain and Syria. But one year on, the youth revolt has gone truly global

It could have easily been overlooked. It was not the first time a young, frustrated Arab had taken desperate action to draw attention to the plight of the marginalised millions. But on this occasion the news of a suicide went viral.

A year to the day since Mohamed Bouazizi's self-immolation in a sleepy Tunisian town kicked off a year of revolt, the convulsions have spread further than could ever have been imagined: in the depths of a Russian winter activists are planning their next howl of protest at the Kremlin; in a north American city a nylon tent stands against a bitter wind; in a Syrian nightmare a soldier contemplates defection.

Quietly, a lifetime of old power structures – political, social, ideological – have been dissolved and the certainties of one generation have been replaced by the messy unpredictability of another. Today the furniture of the new sits deliberately beside the supposed certainties of the old. Handmade barricades are bolted to public squares, plastic tents pitched beside stone cathedrals, and the solid steel of a New York bank is harassed by pop-up armies of retweeters.

It began as a Mediterranean revolt spreading on both sides of the sea – from Tunisia through Egypt and Libya and beyond, and from Greece and Spain upwards into Europe. In a million different and fragmented ways, scenes of protest were the narrative backbone to 2011 played out again and again in cities as far afield as Santiago, Stockholm and Seoul.

But to view the activism of 2011 through a nationalist, ethnic or even class lens is to miss its unifying trait – 2011 was the year of a global youth revolt.

The struggles that gave birth to each demonstration, occupation or revolution were separate and yet connected; part of a collective roar from young people who, for the first time in modern history, faced a future in which they would be worse off than their parents.

Kyriakos Chatzistefanou, Greek journalist and director of documentary Debtocracy, says it was exactly this awareness that got people into the streets of Athens. "It was mainly middle-class, well-educated people that felt for the first time that they will be what economists now call the lost generation.

"That was a paradigm shift. With small intervals in the second world war and the dictatorship, in general all the generations in Greece had growth and a better future. For the first time after 2008 there is a generation that realises that there is an end to that … [and] they reacted angrily, violently."

The same prognosis is to be found on the other side of the Atlantic. The lack of opportunities for young Americans has been "a huge part of what's happening", says Laura Long, who has been involved in Occupy Oakland since September.

"We were promised a series of steps on a ladder to climb to get to a point to be successful, and in the last decade especially that ladder has just been pulled up so that we can't even reach the lowest rung basically."

But it is far more than material privation that underlies this year's youth revolt, more than just a question of how to integrate into the globalised economy the talents and expectations of 80 million unemployed young people from the most well-educated generation in human history.

At the heart of this most potent insurrection since 1968 is an expression of the deep uncertainty about how the future will pan out.

"It's the first time in American history that a generation came along and was told: 'No, things are gonna be worse for you than they were for your parents'," says Jesse LaGreca, a prominent Occupy Wall Street figure who has travelled to occupations across the US.

"I think that has created the necessity for change, and we can no longer wait for political promises – we have to make that change ourselves." And the social problems run deep.

In the US the current crop have been called the boomerang generation due to young people's inability to flee their parents' nest.

The data underscores the problem: more and more young people out of work, more and more of them stuck living with their parents well into their 30s. One in five American men between the age of 25-34 have not yet left home. In Europe the figure is even higher. For Vesna Milosevic, a Slovenian expert on youth employment, statistics like these demonstrate the frustration that young people have with becoming independent adults.

"Young people are postponing the important events or phases in their growing up process. For example, they get a job very much later … but at first they are stuck in some precarious work or a temporary job.

"The period of 'youth' is extending to the 30s or even towards 35. They have children later … and [are] moving away from their family and becoming independent later, which is the most important thing.

But, she says, "they don't want to be in this 'mama hotel' … they have no other choice. This postponement is not voluntary. It's the [economic] situation which forces people to postpone events in their life. It's too expensive to rent an apartment if you don't have a regular job, if you don't know what's going to happen next month," she says.

With the ability to build horizontal links using new technologies, a generation decided this year not to passively embark on a pre-programmed conveyor belt of life under austerity, oppression – or both – but instead opted to come together and attempt an audacious reclamation of autonomy.

Nowhere was this more true than in the Middle East, where Bouazizi's immolation set off an inferno that is still smouldering. On Friday in Cairo, as demonstrators and police again clashed violently, it was as clear as ever that there is plenty of unfinished business in this youth uprising.

"The Arab world was considered a stagnant pond of retardation and tyranny, inhabited by what appeared to be a complacent populace toiling fatalistically under the yoke of their dictators," says Iyad el-Baghdadi, compiler of the canonical Arab Tyrant's Manual.

"Most observers thought this status quo to be stable, if not permanent," adds el-Baghdadi. "What's worst, many Arabs thought so too. Boy, look at us now."

When you speak to those organising the Occupy movement, it is remarkable how important Tunisia and Tahrir were to their own action. No longer was the west to be a democratic beacon to the Middle East. It was very much the other way around.

"Who would have thought that Mohamed Bouazizi would set in motion such a series of events?" says David Osborn from the Occupy Portland movement. He says that many in the west were "deeply moved and inspired" by seeing protests across the Middle East, but that Egypt in particular had captured Americans' imagination.

"To see the movement generally, but in particular the youths, mobilise and really demand the impossible … to think Mubarak would not have been president more than a few weeks or even a month or two before he actually fell was almost impossible. And yet they asserted that another world without Mubarak was possible, and I think that kind of re-inspired the radical imagination in many of us."

"The lesson of Tahrir Square was that once again, democracy has become a revolutionary force," says Shimri Zameret, who spent four months organising the global day of occupation on 15 October that saw people in more than 900 cities turn the square's tent city into a worldwide phenomenon.

Zameret, who also spent two years in an Israeli jail for refusing to serve in the army, says young people have suddenly reached a tipping point in their acceptance of the status quo.

Suddenly "the natural, everyday has become the historical", he says, adding that there is an awareness that "things can change and change suddenly" when people take to the streets. Civic action, he says, brings a sense of control back into people's uncertain lives.

Zameret also talks of an infuriation at the way the global leadership has failed to tackle the pressing issues of the day, from corporate greed and banking failure to problems like the environment.

"The demand [by activists] is no longer to go to the IMF or the G8/G20 summit and beg to have this or that issue implemented, it is also not about 'anti-globalisation'. This time it's about 'real global democracy now': we demand the power to fully control the decisions that shape our lives – local, national, European and global."

It is easy to dismiss the interconnectedness of 2011's youth-driven resistance movements; and it is possible even to deny they amount to any kind of identifiable social phenomenon at all.

Certainly, comparisons between the pepper spray of Oakland and the tank shells of Homs can be facetious, and the triumphs of the protester – named this week as Time's "person of the year" – appear scant if limited purely to the arena of formal political change.

But connections there are, not just in mutual recognition and frustration, but in method. The movements that made the headlines in 2011 were largely non-hierarchical, creative and locally autonomous. And consciously so.

Occasionally, a leadership figure peeks through – like Tawakkul Karman in Yemen, Camila Vallejo in Chile or Alexei Navalny in Russia. But on the ground appointed leadership has, it seems, become a shunned concept for fear those at the top of a social movement would soon bow to and barter with an old guard.

As Ganzeer, one of Egypt's most popular street artists, argues, Tahrir has been swamped by all manner of those who speak the language of change but seek ultimately to suppress it by cutting deals with those on the other side of the gate.

"Demonstrations, strikes, and other forms of protest carry on regardless, because today's revolution, unlike revolutions of the past, is leaderless," he claims.

Andres Villena Oliver from the Indignados movement in Spain admits that it is not easy. "It's a very emotional process," he says. "They don't just feel very angry with the economic failures but they want to change the world, in some weeks. It makes it very difficult.

"The more democratic a movement is, the less efficient it is."

But people will be heard, he says, and on an equal footing as everyone else.

A new political form is being cobbled together by those on the street, and it has come to reflect the horizontal lines of the social media which helps drives so many of today's demonstrations.

But the great revenge is this: the generation that grew up being told they were the heirs to Francis Fukuyama's end of history and victory of a liberal capitalist society, is now working its damnedest to prove how untrue this is, not for the sake of utopian reimagination but to resolve the very serious problems that very system has created.

Where the movement goes next remains to be seen. But as the Jordanian human rights activist Laila Sharaf recently told a group of young people in Beirut, in a statement that could apply universally: "Today the rules of the game have changed, and the ball is in your court."

Or, to put it in the words that are so often held aloft at any street protest today, part in hope, part as threat: "This is just the beginning."
